ROUTINE DENTAL CHECK-UP
A check-up allows your dentist to see if you have any dental problems and helps you keep your mouth healthy. Leaving problems untreated could make them more difficult to treat in the future, so it's best to deal with problems early, or, if possible, prevent them altogether.
Your dentist will suggest when you should have your next check-up based on how good your oral health is. The time between check-ups can vary from three months to two years depending on how healthy your teeth and gums are and your risk of future problems. |
DENTAL IMPLANTS
Implants are a strong, attractive option for fixing a toothy smile. A titanium anchor is placed in the patient's jaw and a realistic restoration is built on top of it. Get rid of your gaps forever with dental implants at our dental clinic.
Implants are inserted under local anesthetic. The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon makes an incision in the gum and drills the implant in. After fitting the implant, the gums are closed with stitches. The whole procedure takes only about 20 minutes.Once the bone has grown around the dental implants on average about 2 months, the artificial teeth are added and any necessary bridges or dentures can be fitted. |
ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the specialty of dental practice that deals with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the mouth, jaws, face and related structures. This includes the removal of impacted and decayed teeth, placement of dental implants, orthognathic surgery (jaw surgery to correct the bite or the jaw),biopsy and removal of small cysts and tumors of the mouth and jaws.
More simply put, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon is the orthopedic surgeon of the facial region. He or she is an individual who addresses problems ranging from the removal of impacted teeth to the repair of the facial bones. |

CROWN
A crowns is a cap used to cover over a tooth that may be broken or decayed to strengthen or improve the cosmetic appearance of the tooth. Crowning is a popular procedure.
Types of dental crowns: - Metal crown can be made of gold alloy, palladium, nickel alloy or chromium alloy. Metal crowns are ideal for use on the back teeth. - Full porcelain crowns look like normal teeth and are ideal for use on the front teeth. - Porcelain fused to metal crowns are stronger and cheaper than full ceramic crowns however may not be very aesthetic for the front tooth/teeth. Depending on the condition of the tooth, a root canal may be necessary before placing a dental crown on the tooth. The dentist will then trim the tooth down to make room for the crown. An impression of the tooth and the surrounding teeth will then be made to fabricate a crown. An acrylic crown will be put on the tooth in the meantime as a temporary measure. The permanent crown is put in place during a follow up visit. |
BRIDGE
A dental bridge is an appliance used to fill a gap from a missing tooth. You can greatly enhance the appearance of your teeth and get a beautiful smile with dental bridging.
Types of dental bridges: - Traditional bridges consist of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap with a false tooth in between. - Cantilever bridges are used when there are teeth on only one side of the gap. - Maryland bonded bridges are made up of a porcelain tooth supported by metal framework (wing) cemented on each side of the adjacent teeth. The dentist begins bridgework by filing down the teeth to accommodate the crowns. Impressions of the teeth are made to create the dental crowns. The false tooth (or teeth) will then be bonded to the crowns. The bridge will be put in place during a follow up visit. |
VENEERS
When a tooth is odd shaped or the colour of the tooth needs to be changed, a thin piece of porcelain is fixed onto the outer surface of the tooth. The tooth first has to be shaved down a little to accommodate for the thickness of the porcelain.
There are two main types of material used to fabricate a veneer: composite and dental porcelain. A composite veneer may be directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth, typically using a resin cement. In contrast, a porcelain veneer may only be indirectly fabricated. |
TEETH WHITENING
Teeth whitening has become one of the most popular ways to enhance your smile. At Tulip Dental clinic, we offer a range of teeth whitening options and our dentist will provide you with all the facts you need to make an informed decision about your teeth.
Whitening of the teeth is performed for patients who desire a brighter smile. Tooth whitening can be performed to reduce discoloration and staining, or simply to provide the patient with whiter, brighter teeth. One visit is usually all it takes for a bright smile. |
ORTHODONTICS
Orthodontics is a speciality of dentistry that is primarily concerned with the treatment of malocclusions (improper bites). Orthodontic treatment is the use of braces, most commonly to straighten crooked teeth or to correct prominent upper front teeth. Fixed braces work by moving teeth in the bones so that all the teeth will be aligned and later, use the back teeth as an anchor to pull the front teeth.
There are many types offered by our orthodontist however the two common ones are Metal braces and Ceramic braces. |
ENDODONTICS
Endodontics, or root canal treatment is enough to have the most brave patients feeling a little nervous. With years of experience and kind-hearted nature, our dentist is skilfully able to restore the most difficult-to-manage cases in a comfortable and friendly environment.
Endodontic treatment is required when the inside of a tooth becomes infected or inflamed due to decay or trauma. The procedure involves the endodontist removing the source of infection by cleaning and shaping the space inside the root and then filling it to avoid future infection. Local anaesthesia is provided to ensure patient comfort, and the entire procedure may take up to three visits depending on the case. |
COMPOSITE FILLINGS
Composite fillings are also called plastic or white fillings. Getting this kind of filling depends on where the tooth is in your mouth. We bite down hard on our back teeth (molars), so a plastic filling may not be a good choice. Talk to your dentist about other options.
To place this filling, your dentist cleans all decay from the tooth and puts a glue (or bonding material) on the inside of the hole. Composite resin is put into the hole in thin layers. Each layer gets hard with the help of a special light that your dentist holds over the tooth. When the last layer of the filling is hard, your dentist shapes the filling so it looks and feels natural. |
GICs/TEMPORARY FILLINGS
Made from a mixture of glass and an organic acid, glass ionomer cement is a tooth-coloured filling material available in different shades. It requires minimum tooth reduction and bonds chemically to the tooth. It is used for filling and cementing.
It is also used as a dental sealant. Due to its fluoride releasing property and requirement of less tooth preparation, it is the material of choice for filling cavities in milk teeth. It generally lasts for less than five years. |
DENTURE
Dentures, also known as false teeth, are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth; they are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Conventional dentures are removable. However, there are many different denture designs, some which rely on bonding or clasping onto teeth or dental implants.
There are two main categories of dentures, the distinction being whether they are used to replace missing teeth on the mandibular arch or on the maxillary arch. |
EXTRACTIONS
A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, including tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to render the tooth non-restorable. Extractions of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth are routinely performed, as are extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment. Wisdom teeth surgery /complicated dental surgeries are performed by our specialist oral & maxillofacial surgeon and generally takes an average of 30 minutes or less for removal of one tooth.
The procedure is usually done after a local anaesthetic injection. Some people also have a sedative to help them relax. Your dentist will advise you on after care to help the healing process. |
PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY
Pediatric dentists promote the dental health of children as well as serve as educational resources for parents. It is recommended that a dental visit should occur within six months after the presence of the first tooth or by a child's first birthday. It is important to establish a comprehensive and accessible ongoing relationship between the dentist and patient. This is because early oral examination aids in the detection of the early stages of tooth decay. Early detection is essential to maintain oral health, modify aberrant habits, and treat as needed and as simply as possible. Additionally, parents are given a program of preventative home care (brushing/flossing/fluorides), a caries risk assessment, information on finger, thumb, and pacifier habits, advice on preventing injuries to the mouth and teeth of children, diet counseling, and information on growth and development.
GUM DISEASE
The bacteria cause inflammation of the gums that is called “gingivitis.” In gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and can bleed easily. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that can usually be reversed with daily brushing and flossing, and regular cleaning by a dentist or dental hygienist.
In some cases of gum disease, root planing (debridement) may be required. This is a deep clean under the gums that gets rid of bacteria from the roots of your teeth. Before having the treatment, you may need to have a local anaesthetic (painkilling medication) to numb the area. |
